If you think that all slow paced movies are art movies then Mr. Singh and Mrs. Mehta is an art movie for you. Prashant Narayanan plays Mr. Mehta, Aruna Shields plays Mrs. Singh, Lucy Hassan plays Mrs. Mehta, Naved Aslam plays Mr. Singh in this movie. Director Pravesh Bharadwaj has made an attempt to make movie on infidelity with an uncommon story to back it up.
Mr. Singh and Mrs. Mehta have an extra-marital affair and they have no qualms in doing so. When their respective spouses come to know about their affair they both become depressed. Additionally they don’t even confront their spouses about the fact that they know about their extra-marital affair. Mr. Mehta and Mrs. Singh become acquainted with each other due to the affair of their spouses and find comfort in each other’s company. This comfort and friendship turns to love within a very short time. Mr. Mehta being a painter gets inspired by painting nude paintings of Mrs. Singh. The director creates such conflict on screen so that it is impossible to decide, who the wronged party is by the end of the movie.
Acting is passable but not extraordinary. Mr. Singh and Mrs. Mehta has been directed well but it would have helped a great deal if the pace of the movie was increased. The music of the movie has something to recommend it. However the misleading point in the movie is that it is a misnomer. This movie should have been named as Mr. Mehta Mrs. Singh.
