Karma Aur Holi : Music and Movie Reviews
Director Manish Gupta’s Karma aur Holi was in the making for quite sometime. The movie finally released on March 6 2009. It has an interesting mix of Indian and International starcast like Sushmita Sen, Rati Agnihotri, Randeep Hooda, Suresh Oberoi, Deepal Shaw, Suchitra Krishnamurthy, Christopher Walken, Naomi Campbell and Sticky Fingas amongst others. The movie is produced by Hollywood actor Robert De Niro’s daughter Drena De Niro along with Prashant Shah & David Roma and was released under the banner ‘Saregama’ and ‘Rapture’ Productions.
Karma Aur Holi is about an NRI couple – Sushmita and Randeep, who live in New Jersey. They decide to invite close friends and acquaintances over for a Holi bash to spice up their otherwise boring life. Enter a series of guests, who are as varied as different colours of the rainbow. We have an aspiring actor, a struggling filmmaker, a protective mother, a chauvinistic husband and a tarot card reader to name a few. As the party progresses, the guests begin talking about each other’s lives when something unexpected happens and they end up revealing their best kept secrets to others.
Karma Aur Holi lacks everything a good movie consists of. The only saving grace is Sushmita Sen. Suchitra Krishnamurthy and Suresh Oberoi were also tolerable. However, no other actor is worth a mention. The music by Raju Singh and Vishal Bharadwaj hasn’t created much of a stir.
Karma Aur Holi has met with terrible fate at the box office. Sushmita Sen, who is the only big Indian name attached with the movie, refused to promote the movie and has gone all out calling the movie ‘undignified.’ This could possibly be one of the reasons for the movie being bombed at the box office. Karma Aur Holi is a disaster and it has nothing much to do either with ‘Karma’ or ‘Holi’. Watch it only if you want to have a good laugh.
