Dil Kabaddi: Marital Comedy directed by Love Guru
Under the direction of Anil Sharma, making his debute, ‘Dil Kabaddi’, includes rich performances by stars like Irrfan Khan, Konkana Sen, Rahul Bose, Soha Ali Khan, Payal Rohatgi and Rahul Khanna. The movie is produced by Shailesh Singh from Paramhans Creation and was released on December 5 2008.
This movie is summoned as one of the bold Hindi movies and is about the melancholic lives of two couples, who are nabbed in the clutches of marital boredom. The film explores the various manners in which these individuals lurk out of the cocoons of their marriage for the sake of fun and excitement. Thus, it’s the commitment involved in the fast pace of urban relationships, which is explored in this flick. Though this movie shares the same plot like “Husbands and Wives”, but has its own freshness and interesting execution. At the same time, it also peeks into the bedrooms of the couples and reveals their personal sexual gossips.
But sadly, the script is not strong enough to hold the attention of the audience for the duration it is meant for. Individualistic sequences and assorted incidents make it more of an abstract form of narration. Thus, the totality, which was needed in the execution, is lacking at some places. Furthermore, the narration gets a bit verbose and worse at several occasions. The music also tends to be functional. The cinematography is quite striking and the work done by hand held cameras is impressive. The film receives a rating of 1.6 out of 5.
But, the question is whether the Indian population is ready for such a sexual comedy? How well the director has maintained the thin line between infidelity and vulgarity? Get going for this rollercoaster ride of open relationships to get an idea what this sport is all about!
