Dabaang Movie, Music Review

September 11, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

So, there’s always moments that movie buffs wait for, and promos of Dabangg had quite set up the atmosphere for it’s Eid weekend release. Certainly a big boost for all Salman Khan fans, but what does the movie offer other movie goers. Well to start with, a part of the film’s opening week financial success can be attributed to the fact that most multiplexes ran shows only for Dabangg.

And here is the latest: According to film distributors, Dabaang may collect close to Rs 38-40 crore in its first weekend, matching or even beating 3 Idiots first week earning. The movie already broke the 1st day collection by collecting Rs 14.25 crore, against 3 Idiots Rs 13 Crore.

Coming back to the film, it does boast of a star cast that’s slightly biggish, including Dimple Kapadia, Om Puri, Anupam Kher, and Vinod Mehra. Well this may come as a surprise to most because the promos certainly only managed to focus on Salman, and newbie Sonakshi Sinha. The debutant certainly has a role in the film but it’s not a head turner, and apart from a few glimpses, most of her acting prowess is limited to song, music and dance sequences.

So, does the macho Salman stand a chance in today’s day and time of modern cinema, especially when Indian cinema makers are trying hard to cater to the local audience, and the Indian Diaspora settled abroad? Well, to an extent it does succeed because the film’s certainly been made to cater to a certain audience. So, yes if you like loud dialogues, and acting, item numbers, the film will stick with you because it certainly does miss a strong story line. However, it’s still drawing in an audience as an entertainer following the lines of last year’s film ‘Wanted.’ So, here’s to a jhakaas performance to something that could almost be mistaken as a sequel to ‘Wanted.’ A serious concern though would be using the police uniform yet again in this avatar, because honestly, we’re always complaining about the hooliganism that exists, and then glorify it on big screen.
