Krantiveer – No Revolution

Welcome back to the era when heroes shouted long and loud to get audience’s attention. This time around we have a heroine who plays the shrieking star and daughter of our original Krantiveer, Nana Patekar.

Our Krantiveer follows in her father’s footsteps and is keen on exposing all the corrupt politicians. She is a hot shot reporter and tries to expose the politicians, businessmen and any other suspicious person by carrying out sting operations.
This movie tries to focus on youth who should take charge of the country as it is currently being run by old politicians who are corrupt and are the reason for lack of progress in our country.

Additionally every character in the movie tries to give us individualistic meaning of the word patriotism. This movie doesn’t have a strong storyline to back up the message that was given in the first Krantiveer. Yes the director does manage to convey the importance of voting with diligence but it has not been represented with necessary punch to make any impression on the audience.

Acting wise although modern Krantiveer Jahan Bloch does appear to be confident, but loud dialogues don’t enhance her role or show off her acting ability to the fullest. Supporting actors who are well known such as Aman Verma, Farida Jalal, Muskesh Tiwari and others perform their roles with the same ease that we have become used to. None other co-stars give performances worth mentioning.

This Krantiveer doesn’t seem to have what it takes to bring about kranti in Bollywood’s downward trend.

Mr. Singh and Mrs. Mehta: Movie Review

If you think that all slow paced movies are art movies then Mr. Singh and Mrs. Mehta is an art movie for you. Prashant Narayanan plays Mr. Mehta, Aruna Shields plays Mrs. Singh, Lucy Hassan plays Mrs. Mehta, Naved Aslam plays Mr. Singh in this movie. Director Pravesh Bharadwaj has made an attempt to make movie on infidelity with an uncommon story to back it up.

Mr. Singh and Mrs. Mehta have an extra-marital affair and they have no qualms in doing so. When their respective spouses come to know about their affair they both become depressed. Additionally they don’t even confront their spouses about the fact that they know about their extra-marital affair. Mr. Mehta and Mrs. Singh become acquainted with each other due to the affair of their spouses and find comfort in each other’s company. This comfort and friendship turns to love within a very short time. Mr. Mehta being a painter gets inspired by painting nude paintings of Mrs. Singh. The director creates such conflict on screen so that it is impossible to decide, who the wronged party is by the end of the movie.

Acting is passable but not extraordinary. Mr. Singh and Mrs. Mehta has been directed well but it would have helped a great deal if the pace of the movie was increased. The music of the movie has something to recommend it. However the misleading point in the movie is that it is a misnomer. This movie should have been named as Mr. Mehta Mrs. Singh.

Trump Card: Movie Review

Director Arshad Khan chose some fresh faces from bollywood for his recently released movie, Trump Card. Vikram Kumar, Haider Ali, Ehsaan Khan and Vishwajeet Pradhan are the leads along with Manasi Dovhal, Urvashi Chowdhury and Yashika. Trump Card was publicized as a suspense thriller, with a number of clueless murders and spy work for a particular cause.

The plot of Trump Card has three friends Rahul, Raj, and Veer who have acquired 300 crores each from a property will made by Rani Yashodhra Devi. One of the clauses states that if out of three, one friend is missing the money will get divided among two, and in any case two friends go missing then the third will bag the entire amount. In case all three are absent then total 900 crores will be donated to Mr. Malhotra’s N.G.O. “AKSHAR.” The question arises as to why the ‘Rani’ has given such a huge amount of wealth to these three friends instead of her family members.

Things get complex with a number of murders which accompany the incident. In the climax, the trump card is divulged and the mystery is solved. The overall action sequence and shots were nice but the storyline was weak. Even, the film picturisation was not strong enough to attract the audience. Lalit Sen has not been able to do justice with the music in the movie, which has been regarded as substandarised.

Trump Card movie disappointed the viewers. The new comers especially Pankaj and Yashika did a good job with their decent and confident acting.

Right Yaa Wrong: Bollywood Movie Review

Right Yaa Wrong by debutant director Neeraj Pathak has been a rather demotivating thriller in this IPL season 3. Although the film is a multi-starrer, with Sunny Deol in the lead along with Irrfan Khan, Isha Koppikar and Konkona Sen Sharma, yet it could not grab public attention as the storyline could easily be anticipated.

It portrays Sunny Deol as a crippled police officer and his wife (Isha Koppikar) who is in an alleged affair with his stepbrother. The duo makes a plot to bump off Sunny Deol on some insurance money motive but a series of unpredictable twists and turns follow. Eventually, the story brings Irrfan Khan, another upright police officer in a solid role opposite to Mr. Deol and Konkona Sen Sharma, Irrfan’s lawyer sister who challenges the court in support of Sunny Deol.

The writers, Girish Dhamija, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan and Neeraj Pathak came up with a strong script and screenplay, but the film wasn’t something to gush about.

Overall performance was smooth, as Mr. Pathak has tried to give a grey shade to all the characters in order to create a realistic effect and has done justice to the title. While Sunny Deol played a stable role, Isha Koppikar did an excellent job by portraying a lovable wife and doting mother alongside a woman who betrays her husband. As per the roles essayed, Irrfan Khan and Konkona did a great job but it disappointed the audience who expected a bit more from them.

Baabarr : Bollywood Movie Review

The film is basically a flick that revolves around the story of a young boy played by Soham shah who in his quest of protecting his younger siblings fires a gun and thus goes on to become a gangster. Start the police chase by Mithun Chakraborty who finds it very futile to go on the chase after BAABAR. This is due to the links of high ranking officials as well as politicos that BAABAR has. Like all of the movies of this genre there is always a pretty girl who falls in love with the hero in spite of all his deeds and there is also a rival who challenges his supremacy time and again. These two roles are played by Urvashi Sharma and Sushant Singh respectively.

Though the film goes on smoothly there are some of the scenes that get your thinking machine into play and makes you wonder why that certain thing happened when even god could not make it happen… just an exaggeration, but its true. The intensity of the gangster is not up to the mark and thus fails to portray the act with the much needed intensity. Read more
