Billu Barber: Bollywood Music and Movie Review
Billu Barber: Conflict of Identities
‘Billu Barber’ is surely going to be another feather in the cap of Red Chillies Entertainment! Well, this is what critics feel about the new venture starring Shahrukh Khan, Irfan Khan and Lara Dutta. During the recent years, the Hindi remakes of South Indian films have done quite well with the audience. If Ghazini could do it, why can’t Billu Barber?
A remake of the Malayalam film “Kadha Parayumbol”, this comic film seems to be a replay of the legendary Krishna-Sudama story in the contemporary Indian setting. The perfectionism of Priyadarshan (Director) finds a good mix with the lyrics of Gulzar. The music from Pritam, who has recently solidified his position amongst the top musician in the industry, is exhilarating. It has been doing well with the audience, since it hit the market.
Bilas Rao Pardesi alias Billu (Irfan Khan) is a village barber. He lives a simple life with his wife (Lara Dutta) and children. The winds of change are blowing in this village.
Everything is trying to keep pace with the changing world — but not with Billu. His world
is still the same, as it used to be years back. The story however, gets a twist when a film unit visits this village. Sahir Khan (SRK) is a superstar, who has something in common with Billu – both studied in the same school during their childhood. The ordinary Billu becomes extraordinary now. The question before everybody is whether he would ever be the same Billu Barber again?
The conflict of identities has been well portrayed in this film. To see, which identity actually reigns over the other, just hit the theatre on February 13, 2009, the scheduled day of the film’s release. The movie is packed with some cameo appearances by Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Deepika Padukone.
If star cast, music and movie crew is to look at, we have another smash hit of the year waiting to hit the theaters, a day before the Valentines Day.
