Varun khanna’s “Bad Luck Govind” has just been released across the nation (on January 10, 2009) and its providing a bit of comic warmth to the bomb-wary people. The movie stars Gaurav Kapoor, Parmeet Sethi, Hrishita Bhatt, Vrajesh Hirjee, Govind Namdeo and Zakir Hussain. The movie is being co-produced by the director along with Himanshu Shah, Chirag Arora and Tarun Arora. Mixed Blood Cinema and Artesian Media take over as production houses for the movie.
“Bad luck Govind” is about Govind. Govind is perhaps the most unlucky person walking on the planet. The movie travels with him from Delhi to Mumbai where his fate is being threaded to the fate of underworld dons, bookmakers and a charming nurse. It also traces his realization about the positive forces of earth that keeps the romance called life alive.
Direction of Varun Khanna, who made his debut in 2006 with ‘Beyond Honor’ as a writer and director, tends towards the display of extraordinary adventures of an ordinary man and he comes out well to establish such a vision in Bad luck Govind. Gaurav Kapur plays Govind and the Channel V vee-jay seems to have come of age with his portrayal of a helpless soul visibly playing at strange odds with himself.
It is too early to talk about the revenue that Bad luck Govind would generate or if it would access the international arena but presently, it needs to be really liked by the audience here in India to stand up to the genre of ‘Aamir’ and ‘King Khan’ starrers.
Overall, Bad luck Govind seems a nice effort to unravel the power of optimism and the need to stick to it amidst faithless chaos and continuous misfortune.
