13 B Bollywood Music and Movie Review
13 B is the directorial debut of Vikram K. Kumar, who was formerly assisting director Priyadarshan. Vikram is also the story/screenplay and dialogue writer of the movie. The movie was released under the banner of Big Pictures on March 06, 2009 and is a welcome change from the usual love triangles and melodrama. Watching R. Madhavan and Neetu Chandra in the lead roles is sure a treat for movie goers. The supporting cast includes Sachin Khedekar, Poonam Dhillon, Deepak Dobriyal and Murli Sharma.
The story has a rosy beginning. A simple happy family consisting of 8 members wherein the womenfolk are hooked on to the saas bahu serials. It’s only when they move into the new apartment 13B that all hell breaks lose. There are a series of paranormal happenings in the house that keeps everyone guessing till Madhavan chances upon a TV serial that exactly reflects the happenings in his own life.
The music of 13B is composed by the Shankar Ehsaan Loy trio with lyrics from Neelesh Misra. PC Sreeram’s photography is commendable. It thrills you at the right time without using too much darkness. Madhavan’s acting is a must watch and the no makeup Neetu Chandra provides him with full support. 13B is Poonam Dhillon’s comeback after a decade and she hasn’t disappoint.
The interesting catch of 13B is that every urban citizen can well relate to the happenings in the movie. The use of everyday appliances like the television set, mobile phone and the lift is a newer concept as compared to our usual clichés like tantriks and shlokas.
13B has made better box office collections, as compared to the other 2 movies released on the same day. It is an excellent effort from Vikram K. Kumar with some impressive acting from the cast. The only downer is the length of the film, which makes it look dragged in the second half. However, this is one of India’s best thrillers after a long time of not so spooky flicks. It should not to be missed.
